Greek Streak caught up with Erica, the PR Chair for Sigma Kappa – Alpha Epsilon chapter at Iowa State University. The ladies at Sigma Kappa have had a busy semester! Erica riffs on philanthropy, Greek Week, and Sigma Kappa apparel – check out her interview below.
What has Sigma Kappa been up to this semester?
Sigma Kappa has been involved with philanthropies as well as various Homecoming events this year at ISU. Each fall, we host Sigma Kapples which is a caramel apples philanthropy on central campus and we were able to raise over $2,100 for our Foundation, which supports Alzheimer’s Research and Gerontology. Sigma Kappa along with our fraternity pairings Farmhouse and Alpha Kappa Lambda placed 3rd overall in Homecoming, while placing 1st in Banner and 1st in Lawn Display skit. We are currently gearing up for our second philanthropy, Ultra Violet Night, which is a fashion show and silent auction fundraiser that features live music and free food which proceeds also support Alzheimer’s Research.
What have been your “go-to” sorority apparel choices this fall?
We really love our half-zip black pullovers – they’re perfect for fall and are definitely a go-to.
How has Sigma Kappa been giving back this semester? Anything new?
Aside from our chapter’s personal philanthropies, Sigma Kappa participates in the Memory Walk to End Alzheimer’s every October. It’s a great bonding experience and feels great getting involved with such a great cause!
If you had to choose one sorority apparel item that best represents Sigma Kappa, what would it be and why?
A classic cardigan with our chapter crest best represents Sigma Kappa because of the casual, yet classiness it emulates.
Editor’s Note: Check out some of our latest Sigma Kappa clothing!
What is the best thing about going Greek @ Iowa State?
The best thing about going Greek at Iowa State is the huge amount of PanHellenic support throughout the entire Greek Community. It’s such a fun time getting to know members of other chapters through Homecoming events, Greek Week competitions, and social and philanthropy events. ISU is very fortunate to have such a strong Greek Community.
