When I started college, I knew I wanted to join a sorority. It made me think of Legally Blonde, when Elle got 179 on her LSAT’s and all her sisters were there cheering for her. I wanted that sort of atmosphere. Even though it’s obviously not always like that, there are so many benefits to being a sorority member.
Like in Legally Blonde, your sisters are your family. If you decide you want to go to Harvard Law, they will do everything they can to help you succeed because that’s what family does. Your fellow members will be there for you no matter what, and they’re a perfect group of people to rely on.
Also, you get to help a bunch of people all the time, and have fun doing it. Your sorority is responsible for raising money and awareness for your philanthropy and helping those in need. Some sororities help those with breast cancer, or raise money for children’s hospitals. Whatever the philanthropy, the amount of good a sorority can do really does make a huge difference.
Being in a sorority also opens a lot of doors for leadership. There are so many leadership positions that are available within the sorority, and it’s a great way to get used to being a leader while you’re in an environment that’s comfortable for you. Then when you’re a senior looking for a career, you already have leadership experience!
Every sorority girl gets all these perks, plus the privilege of being part of something way bigger than yourself or your school. Your sorority is just one chapter out of maybe hundreds all over the country, and you’re all sisters trying to accomplish the same goals and using the same morals and ideals. I don’t know about you, but that makes me feel pretty awesome.
All these reasons mean one thing: you should be super proud to call yourself a sorority girl, because you’re amazing. Celebrate your letters, and help your sister’s celebrate them too! Check out our Press Collection shirts so you can wear your letters loud and proud.
